What to Expect When Attending a Cremation
Attending a Cremation Service? Here’s What to Expect
The passing of a loved one is never easy. It elicits a strong emotional response from us that can take a long time to get over. The funeral and cremation processes are two common ways in which we can mourn our passed loved ones. However, people are often uncomfortable with funerals and cremations because of the unknown associated with both. Thankfully, a simple explanation can help relieve some of this discomfort. Here is what to expect if you are going to attend a cremation service:
- Arrive at the Crematorium: You begin by arriving at the crematorium shortly before the scheduled service. You await outside for the arrival of the hearse. The coffin may also be brought to the facility before the arrival of the mourners. It is then placed on a platform for mourners to view.
- Seated Shortly Before Service: The cremation funeral typically begins about 30-45 minutes before the cremation itself begins. So, it is important to be there on time to view the casket and attend the cremation service.
- Service is Held: After the 30-45 minute pre-cremation funeral and everyone is seated, the cremation will begin.
- The Committal Begins: As the service ends, the casket is typically obscured from view so that you may pay your final respects. Families can often choose to have the casket moved behind glass, curtains, or a gate.
- Mourners Leave the Service: This is the time for friends and family to give their condolences. You will also see the flowers and wreaths provided by friends and family.
